Waves Crashing on a Beach

This time of year can be rough with rain pouring down and the sun hiding behind the gloomiest of clouds. The lack of sunshine often times causes us to feel an overwhelming case of the blues. One area that is often times overlooked in our society but is so vital for our overall health is our emotional health.

Did you know that we store our emotions internally? It’s why our stomachs knot up when we feel anxious or we can actually feel our blood boil when we become enraged.

It is so important that we release our emotions and don’t allow ourselves to hold on to past traumas, heart aches and wrongdoings. I know, easier said then done right?! But we have to let go. It’s imperative to our health that we stop letting ourselves be victims of the past.

Simple Ways to Navigate Your Emotional Journey

The good news is, there are simple things you can do to handle day to day stress and to release those toxic emotions that we all hold on to:

  • Exercise, whether it’s walking, running, hiking, biking, playing a sport or taking an aerobics class is a great way to boost endorphins.

  • Because we hold toxic emotions internally, gut health, aka diet plays a huge role in our ability to release emotions.

  • Taking deep restorative breaths, meditation and prayer are all great ways to calm the nerves.

  • Practicing yoga helps to recenter and ground yourself.

  • Talking it out with a friend, or a therapist often helps to work through past traumas.

  • Medication, under the care of a doctor can also be beneficial in letting go and stabilizing your emotions.

Personally I have found that the use of essential oils, has helped me tremendously in learning to navigate my emotional journey and let go of past feelings that have lingered longer than necessary. Trust me when I say, you don’t wanna be in my head.

What are some tools that you use when riding your emotional waves??
